FIFA wants to collect more than $1 billion from EA Sports for license

FIFA game without the name FIFA

FIFA from EA Sports

There was news circulating from the past few days that EA Sport’s next FIFA game will not have the title FIFA to it. There was no reason why EA Sports were taking this decision. It seems there is a new demand from FIFA to collect more than $1 billion every four years from EA Sports for the license. This new demand is four times the present amount that it gets from EA Sports.

This new agreement or demand from FIFA has forced EA to consider renaming its latest FIFA 22 game. The FIFA 22 game was launched this October as a continuation of the FIFA 21. The previous agreement between EA Sports and FIFA was for over ten years that will expire in 2022. This agreement includes the payment from EA Sports to use the license of its name in the game by paying $150 million. The news was first reported by The New York Times.

If the talks between EA Sports and FIFA fails, then EA won’t name their upcoming football game like FIFA. EA has already put a patent for EA Sports FC that it might use for the upcoming football game. There are more chances of EA not accept the new terms from FIFA as FIFA also wants to limit the monetization of EA for the in-app purchases. EA will not be affected more as FIFA’s license used the name and world cup. The licenses to have the player data and faces are part of another license.

These new terms from FIFA towards the most popular football game seems a little bit harsh. The discussion on this will be ending by the end of this year. If everything goes well, we will be getting another FIFA 23 else a new name to the game. It would be interesting to see what EA will name their new football game series.
