GTA 3, San Andreas, and Vice City are getting their remastered versions

A recent report claims that the Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, the three most admired titles in the lineup, such as GTA 3, San Andreas, and Vice City, are getting their remastered versions. The remastered trilogy is on the way to multiple platforms, including Nintendo switch. If everything goes well, they arrive as early as this fall.

Kotaku reports that it talked to three sources working on this project and learned that GTA 3, San Andreas, and Vice City will be remastered in Unreal Engine. The report also says they will feature “a mix of new and old graphics.”

According to the report, Sources confirmed that Rockstar Dundee, a Scottish Rockstar branch, is leading the project to develop remastered GTA 5 for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S scheduled for later this year. At a point, the company planned to offer GTA Trilogy Remastered to players who purchased the upcoming GTA V for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. But they later decided to launch them as a standalone collection.

These remastered versions were reportedly supposed to come out earlier this year. However, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed development and was due out this fall; “around late October or early November,” according to Kotaku.

The trilogy will release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Stadia, mobile devices, and Switch. However, the Kotaku report states that the company prioritized console ports. So that may result in delayed-release for PC and mobile devices until next year.

According to Kotaku, these remastered titles are trying to stay true to the PS2-era GTA games as much as possible.
