Microsoft’s Xbox is buying Activision Blizzard, a famous video game publisher, for a vast number. The Call of Duty, World of Warcraft, and Diablo owning company is bought for $68.7 billion. This will be Microsoft’s first-highest purchase after LinkedIn for $26 billion in 2016. After this purchase, Microsoft will become the third-largest gaming company by revenue.
This deal will pull Activision Blizzard and King, the publisher of candy crush in mobile gaming. Microsoft thinks this acquisition will help it increase the games available in the Xbox Game Pass. Well, Xbox Game Pass has now reached 25 million subscribers. This was just before the announcement about the acquiring came out the official. The official news came out via Xbox Wire post.
The deal will be closed subjective to the closure of customary conditions and completion of regulatory view. The deal closure will be done by considering Activision Blizzard’s shareholder’s approval. This deal is expected to be completed by 2023, and until then, the companies will be working as separate units. Activision Blizzard has games that are available on many platforms apart from Xbox. Microsoft says it will make sure it supports the games on other platforms.
The decision to buy Activision Blizzard comes after months of sexual harassment claims. There are no words from Microsoft on how it will resolve these issues. The deal will take 18 months to complete, and I hope for the best until then. Also, with this announcement, we have got a change in the organizational hierarchy which now makes Phil Spencers the CEO of Microsoft Gaming Studios.
“We deeply value individual studio cultures. We also believe that creative success and autonomy go hand-in-hand with treating every person with dignity and respect. We hold all teams, and all leaders, to this commitment. We’re looking forward to extending our culture of proactive inclusion to the great teams across Activision Blizzard.” – Phil Spencers.
