Need for Speed is one of the most played car racing games. Now EA games are thinking of removing some of its old titles from the digital store from May 31st. This means we won’t be able to purchase those games from any Digital Storefront. Need For Speed retires the Need For Speed Carbon, Need for Speed Shift, Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed and Need for Speed The Run. Not only the Digital Storefront, but the in-game purchases will also be down from May 31st.
EA games initially developed the NFS, and the first game was released back in 1994. Since then, the game has got a different fan base in the racing category. There were many titles from NFS (Need For Speed) till 2019. The last title is Need For Speed Heat, launched in November 2019 that was developed by a Swedish gaming company, Ghost games.
Even though there are no in-game purchases, online game services such as online leaderboard and matchmaking will be available until August 31st. So does that mean we cannot play the game at all? The answer is NO; you can still play the game offline. This announcement is made by the Community Manager Max Myrus on the subreddit page of Need For Speed.
Decisions to retire games are never made easy, but we are now shifting gears to focus on the future of Need for Speed. The development teams and operational staff have put a lot of time and passion into the development, creation, release and upkeep of the game over the years, and we love to see you play. But the number of players has come to a point where it’s no longer feasible to continue the work behind the scenes required to keep Need for Speed Carbon, Need for Speed Undercover, Need for Speed Shift, Need for Speed Shift 2: Unleashed and Need for Speed The Run up and running. – Max Myrus in Subreddit page.
The news isn’t a shock as these have become age-old games. The Need For Speed Carbon is the eldest from 2006 and the youngest Need For Speed The Run 2011. There are many changes in the graphics gameplay and the detailing that we can get in the newer version of the Need For Speed titles.
