Netflix plans to bring games on its streaming platform soon

World’s popular video streaming platform Netflix is planning to enter into gaming. As per the news, Netflix has hired former EA and Facebook executive Mike Verdu as its Vice President of Game Development. This indicates that the company is planning to expand its services to the gaming segment.

This was first reported by Bloomberg, stating that Netflix is expanding its services to gaming. The gaming service will be a new genre similar to the documentary and standup specials. Netflix at first might offer this for free with the regular subscription plan. Mike Verdu has experience in EA’s mobile games such as Sims, Plants Vs. Zombies, and Star Wars. Verdu will be reporting directly reporting to the CEO of Netflix as per Bloomberg.

In the sources, they have mentioned that the games will appear alongside the current shows and movies. Netflix has been getting ready for gaming for a while; it has already started hiring game developers. With this, Netflix will attract more subscribers and compete with Apple arcade gaming, Amazon’s Luna, and Google Stadia. With the initial offer for existing users having free access to the gaming section after the launch.

Netflix has already announced games based on some of the popular titles. The first game that we have witnessed from Netflix is Stranger Things 3: The Game. The game was out in August 2019 and has been doing well since then. We might expect more games on some of the popular titles from Netflix soon. There is The Witcher gaming that has been announced to release later this year.
