Niantic is bringing the celebration of Lunar New Year to Pokémon GO. It features various red-colored Pokémon, including Shiny Gyarados, which will appear more frequently in the wild. In celebration of the Year of the Ox, the line of Timed Research will feature Tauros. And there many more packed up for this event. So for you to get things ready, here is everything you need to know.

From Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 AM to Sunday, February 14, 2021, at 1:00 PM [local time].
Pokémon GO Lunar New Year Featured Pokémon
The Red Pokémon, such as:
- Krabby
- Goldeen
- Magmar
- Magikarp
- Miltank
- Meditite
- Tepig, and more
will appear more frequently in the wild. And if you’re lucky, you might encounter a coveted red Shiny Gyarados in the wild. So, good luck with that.
The Lunar New Year Event-exclusive Field Research tasks will reward encounters with Meowth, Alolan Meowth, Galarian Meowth, Meditite, and Miltank.
Also, Pokémon representing animals associated with Lunar New Year will be hatching from 5 km Eggs. Those include Rattata, Ekans, Mankey, Ponyta, Mareep, Houndour, Miltank, Torchic, Bagon, Buneary, Tepig, and Litleo.

The Five-star raids and Mega Raid mentioned above will only be available from Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at 10:00 AM to Saturday, February 20, 2021, at 9:00 AM [local time].
Other Event Bonuses
- Gifts will contain more Poké Balls.
- When you swap Gifts, battle in raids, or trade with friends, you’re more likely to become Lucky Friends.
- When you trade a Pokémon, it’ll be more likely to become a Lucky Pokémon.
- The trading range will be temporarily increased to 40 km from Monday, February 8, 2021, at 1:00 PM to Monday, February 15, 2021, at 1:00 PM PST(GMT −8).
