After its recent acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Inc., Microsoft wants to bring Call of Duty and other Activision Blizzard games to Nintendo consoles like the Switch. Microsoft president Brad Smith has said that the company would like to get the titles to Nintendo devices if the acquisition goes through.
While talking to CNBC, Smith said Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard will not stop the company’s games from appearing on rival platforms. Putting current Activision Blizzard games on as many systems as possible is a goal Microsoft wants to achieve.
Brad Smith said, “One of the things we’re being very clear about as we move forward with the regulatory review of this acquisition is that great titles like Call of Duty from Activision Blizzard today will continue to be available on the Sony PlayStation.”
“We’d like to bring it to Nintendo devices. We’d like to bring the other popular titles that Activision Blizzard has, and ensure that they continue to be available on PlayStation, that they become available on Nintendo.”
Call of Duty games previously appeared on the Nintendo console. For instance, Call Duty Ghosts was released for Nintendo consoles in 2013.
As Microsoft took over Bethesda and made Starfield an Xbox exclusive, many think the tech giant has the same intent with the Activision Blizzard acquisition. However, Smith took a different example, saying that after the company bought Mojang in 2014, Minecraft became available on even more platforms.
“The first acquisition made after Satya Nadella became CEO was of Minecraft,” he said. “That was back in September 2014. And what we’ve done with that acquisition, I think, is a clear indicator of what we hope to do if we acquire Activision Blizzard.”
