An Early look at the Android 12 with some UI changes and privacy updates

Android 11 has not yet been out for all the devices, and we have some exciting news about Android 12. There is still time for the release of the developer preview later this month. But this year, before the official developer preview, an internal document got leaked. This internal document has got vital design changes and upcoming features in Android 12.

A post by the XDA developers has got all the screenshots and a list of the changes. When we observe the notification panel, it is not transparent but opaque that reverences the background image. Another change you can observe is the number of Quick settings tiles brought down to 4 from 6. You can view a camera and mic icon on the top right corner that tells us that they are being used. This is a significant change that brings more privacy to the users. It lets the user know when any apps use the camera and microphone.

This privacy feature is what Google is working for for a long time, even before iOS 14 is out. When you tap the icons, you will see the apps’ details accessing the phone’s camera and microphone.

Finally, Android 12 will be having toggles to stop the access of the camera and microphone entirely. This is one of the features that most users are unaware of. You can even turn off all the sensors as usual.

Widgets:

Well, after Apple bringing the widgets to the iOS 14 has made an impact on the users. The way they have implemented the widgets was very excellent than Android. Though Android had the widgets for a long time, they didn’t have many implementations. This time Google has a fantastic job by bringing the widgets back in a more interactive way. A new widget, “Conversation,” helps users track their recent messages, missed calls, and activities. These widgets look nice and are more helpful to users. They have a transparent background, which looks great.

Google is looking to make the conversation widgets and cam/mic indicator mandatory in Android 12. XDA also mentions that they cannot confirm that these are the pics of the Android 12 as the document isn’t public.

I think it is too early to come to the verdict of the changes. We still have to wait for the official developer’s preview to check the features and changes. I always like changes to the UI with the same or more smooth interface experience. I also feel that Google should slow down a little bit in Android development as they are making only small changes to their previous version and releasing them with security patches.

So that’s it for now. Thank you for reading, and please do share the article within your circles if you loved reading it. Also, keep an eye on this space to get relevant updates. Stay safe, and we hope to see you around.
