Google Pixel Fold phone is reportedly coming later this year

Google joins the concept competition.

Google Pixel Fold phone coming later this year

Foldable Smartphones are slowly growing from concept phones to the mass market. Several smartphone makers think it is the next big thing and experimenting with new design iterations. However, Samsung is leading this segment with Galaxy Z Fold and Flip series. Huawei and Motorola are already competing here. The Chinese tech giants Xiaomi and Oppo are also just behind the competition, not so far behind. As the foldable phone is a thing now, Google also wants to join this era. Google Pixel Fold, Google’s very own foldable phone, is under development already. And reports suggest that we may get to see it for real very soon, maybe later this year.

According to The Elec report, major companies like Xiaomi, Oppo, and Google have placed orders for UTG (ultra-thin glass) panels with Samsung Display, the display R/D segment of Samsung.

Samsung Display is the most prominent manufacturers of display panels in the market. Most of the other smartphone manufacturers buy display panels made by Samsung for their smartphones. Also, Samsung was the first company to use UTG panels to protect the foldable display; it was first found in Galaxy Z Fold 2.

So coming to the report, it suggests that Google is one of the companies that ordered UTG panels and OLED Displays from Samsung Display. Google reportedly ordered inward fold (like Galaxy Z Fold 2) 7.62-inch panels for their upcoming foldable devices. No official confirmations, but they may call their foldable phone: Google Pixel Fold.

Google made no official statements of any foldable devices that it is working on. However, it should follow the trend as the foldable market has a large space available to occupy if it has an even greater technology to compete and fill it.
