Leica announces their first smartphone Leitz phone 1

Leica, one of the famous professional camera makers in the world, has announced its first smartphone. The smartphone announcement is made at a press event in Tokyo. Leitz Phone 1 is the name of their first smartphone. This phone packs the world’s first 1-inch super large sensor.

Leica isn’t new to the smartphone market. They have been working with Huawei smartphones in the development of cameras for their smartphones. Though the Huawei camera has got a tremendously positive response from various tech enthusiasts worldwide, it still lacks Google support. For which the sales of the smartphone have seen a considerable drop. As Leica is entering the smartphone market, it might give a good competition to the Pros.

Specifications:

The Leitz Phone 1 hasn’t been compromised with the hardware. It has a 6.6-inch Pro IGZO OLED panel supporting a 240Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2730 x 1260.

Leitz Phone 1 is a moreover camera-centric phone. The sensor present at the back of the phone is a first of its kind. The sensor is a 20 MP 1-inch super large sensor. This sensor has a 7-element sensor with an f/1.9 to capture more light for sharp images. The sensor also supports wide-angle shots and has a 6 x digital zoom. The front-facing camera is a 12.6 MP present at the center of the screen. The back camera has support to RAW and JPEG format and also allows users to take the Leica signature monochrome shots. Leica also includes a magnetic cap to cover the massive lens at the back.

Inside the phone is a powerful Snapdragon 888 chipset with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The battery powering the phone is 5000mAh.

The phone is available to buy through Softbank in Japan. Leica hasn’t given any clarification on the availability of the phone in other regions of the world.
The price of the phone is 187,920 yen (~Rs 1,25,000).
