It is that time of the year where we get to see the new foldable phones from Samsung. Since the first foldable phone from Samsung, it is improving in every segment of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. Samsung has done a great job in addressing many flaws from their first generation of Fold. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is one of the best-improved smartphones you can find. Now it’s time to take another step with their Foldable phones. Samsung, in its unpacked event, has launched its 3rd generation Galaxy Z Fold.
What’s changed in Galaxy Z Fold 3:
Let’s know about the improvement that Samsung has made compared to its previous version. Samsung, in terms of design, has improved by reducing the thickness of the phone. It has even managed to reduce the weight of the phone a little bit. Samsung has used an all-metal outer body that is made of a new alloy made of aluminum. This makes the phone the strongest ever made by Samsung. They have improved the rigidity in the hinge to support the bending of the phone more firmly. Samsung has also managed to make this the first foldable smartphone with an official IPX8 waterproof rating.
The most important thing in this foldable phone is the display. The main display is now 29% brighter than the previous one and has an adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate. The secondary display now also gets the adaptive 120 Hz refresh rate.
Another biggest improvement you can observe is the camera in the primary display. Samsung has included an under-display camera on the inside bigger screen. This makes the inner primary screen seem less with no notches or camera cutouts. The outer camera cut-out also has changed and now looks cooler than the previous bump. The best part is how Samsung has partnered with different apps to make them suitable for multitasking. They have introduced Lab in which you can set the size of the app display area. And Samsung has managed to get all these improvements for a much lower price than their previous Fold.
The downside in the improvements:
The first downside you can observe in the phone is the under-display camera. It is just 4 MP and is clearly not capable of capturing the best selfies considering the 1000 bucks you pay for. Even though the under-display sensor is still in its first generation, we might get to see a perfect under-display in the future.
The battery inside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is even smaller than the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Considering the new 120 Hz panel outside and 29% more brightness, you might often feel the lack of battery.
What is Samsung doing with the S-Pen?
This move from Samsung clearly indicates how it is trying to replace the Note Series. As per the rumors, we also get support from S-Pen for the new Galaxy Z Fold 3. These S Pens are specially made for Fold 3 and come in two variants S-Pen Fold Edition and S-Pen Pro. This seems cool to talk about until we get to know properly about them. To have the S-Pen attached to the Fold 3, you need to buy a separate case for the phone from Samsung. The S-Pen Pro is the one that comes with the Bluetooth feature that we all are accustomed to with the Note series. This S-Pen Pro will be having a built-in battery and need to get charged separately. One more down fact is that you cannot use other stylus pens or S-Pens apart from these two. If you use any of them apart from these, you may end up damaging the screen.
