Xiaomi has unveiled a device with Quad-Curved Waterfall Display as a concept phone. It has curved edges on all four sides, so that’s been said, a Waterfall Display. To achieve that, Xiaomi ditched everything that lies on the sides; no ports, no buttons, and hence, no bezels. So presumably, it only supports wireless charging or their recently introduced but still under works Air Charging. However, the new concept with four curved edges looks fabulous.

This is not Xiaomi’s first concept phone; it’s been continuously innovating futuristic technologies. Back in 2019, the company unveiled the Mi Mix Alpha concept phone. That came up with a wrap-around display extending from the front and going all the way to the back panel. However, unlike the Mi Mix Alpha, the latest device features an “88-degree quad-curved waterfall display”. Its “futuristic unibody no-port design” makes the device look like actual science fiction.

The company says the 88-degree quad-curved waterfall has been “the biggest challenge” for the engineers to make it into a reality.

“Compared with ordinary curved glass, the difficulty of hot bending increases exponentially. Polishing a piece of such hyper-curved glass with a deep 88° bend on four sides requires self-developed glass processing equipment, hot bending under 800°C high temperature and pressure, four different polishing tools, and up to more than ten complex polishing procedures”, written in the official blog post.

Xiaomi says that the phone has a hyper quad-curved 88-degree surface area that “represents the sum of 46 ground-breaking patents, greater than its parts”.
