Amazon is rolling out a new feature to the Android app of Prime Video. This new feature lets users shuffle through episodes in a tv show playing one at random. This feature is now only available on the Android app and not available on iOS. The limitations are not only in the OS version but also in the shows. All the shows currently won’t be supporting this feature. Only selected shows will be able to have this feature.
This feature is rolling out to all Android devices and is available for us when I checked. This feature is only available to shuffle the episodes from a particular season of a show. You won’t be able to shuffle in a way you can get an anime after a horror show episode.
This is the same feature that Netflix has been working on, but Amazon Prime Video has got to a wider audience before Netflix. This feature will be appealing to users who watch sitcoms, particularly the old ones, because these shows have been watched multiple times. Moreover, these shows don’t need prior episode knowledge. They can be viewed in any order.
The shuffle feature that Netflix is working on is quite a different one than the Amazon Prime Video. Netflix says users can shuffle through the entire Netflix collection. This means users on Netflix will be watching multiple shows after each episode, whereas in Amazon, users have to select the show and season they want to shuffle.
Even though the feature is currently available for Android only they are a possibility that it will be coming to other platforms. This feature seems only helpful to watch shows without a linear plot and users rewatching their favorite shows.
