Disney gets a huge Sony deal to bring Spider-Man and other movies to Disney Plus and Hulu

Disney has signed a deal with Sony Pictures to bring its content to Disney Plus and Hulu. This agreement will bring the new Sony theatrical releases starting from 2022. This deal also gives Disney rights to many of Sony’s older pictures. These older pictures include the Spider-Man, which has been missing in the Disney Plus Marvel collection. This deal will make way for those films to be part of the Marvel collection now.

Sony’s theatrical movies from 2022 to 2026 are all included in the deal. Disney will get access to them in their pay 1 TV window. This means films, after getting released in the theaters and home video runs, will be accessible on Netflix. Earlier Netflix and Sony had a deal with a pay 1 window deal. The pay 1 window deal looks fancier but to keep in simple words. Sony releases the movie to the theaters first, then to paid rentals and purchase, then to Netflix. With this deal between Sony and Disney, the movies after on Netflix will be available on Disney-owned services(probable Disney Plus).

This is good news to Disney Plus subscribers and more to the Marvel fans. Disney is adding more and more movies to the Marvel collection to give users more chances to subscribe to Disney Plus. The company is investing more than ever in the MCU, courting big names for future series.

In conclusion, this means that Disney will be getting the future Spider-Man films only after their theatrical runs. Disney will be streaming the movies for a long run that the company arguably values more. With this deal, the Marvel collection is almost complete except for The incredible Hulk. If Disney can get a deal with Universal, then the MCU movie Collection will be complete.
