Sony Pictures has responded to fan complaints about sound mixing issues in “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” by releasing an update to fix sound issues in the film to theaters. The concerns mainly revolved around low audio levels during the introductory scene featuring Spider-Woman, portrayed by Hailee Steinfeld.
Although the sound problem was limited to a small number of theaters, a source close to the movie informed Variety that all copies of the film have been updated. It is not uncommon for distributors to send revised prints to theaters when the opportunity arises.
During the film’s opening weekend, writer-producer Phil Lord addressed the sound issues on Twitter, proposing a solution for viewers. Lord advised audiences to check that the theater volume was set at reference level 7 and to request a slight increase to 7.5 if necessary. He also confirmed that the “Spider-Verse” team mixed the movie at a reference level of 7, resulting in clear dialogue in several theaters.
“Across the Spider-Verse” is the second installment in the “Spider-Man” series focused on Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, a Brooklyn teenager who gains superhuman abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. In this sequel, Miles encounters numerous web-slinging heroes from different dimensions.
Directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, the film had a remarkable opening weekend, raking in $120.5 million and receiving critical acclaim. Variety’s chief film critic Owen Gleiberman hailed it as a worthy companion to the original film, praising its expansion of Miles Morales’ story into exhilarating new realms.
