'The Lion King' sequel: Plot by 'Moonlight' Director Barry Jenkins

Oscar-winning director for “MoonlightBarry Jenkins will be directing the new sequel of The Walt Disney Classic “The Lion King“. The Lion King was a blockbuster in the year 2019 which was helmed by Jan Favreau. The movie earned $1.6 billion globally last year. Jan Favreau has done the movie with live-action photorealistic CGI.

Director Jenkins won an Oscar for scripting the movie MoonLight and also was nominated for If Beale Street Could Talk. The sequel will be more of a prequel to the movie according to a report by Deadline. The reports say that the movie will be using the same photorealistic CGI technology. This technology was also used in the movie The jungle book in the year 2016. There is no release date set for the movie.

The movie has no star actors confirmed, which we heard in the first movie. The movie looks like ‘The Lion King’ without Simba.

About Jenkins:

Jenkins is doing one more movie with Disney and The Lion King will be the second movie. He also has some other movie plans which include a biopic on famed choreographer Alvin Aley. He has also done a web series with Amazon Prime based on the novel The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead. Jenkins also has a script of a drama based on the first American female Olympic boxing champion Claressa Shields. He has another documentary with Netflix called Virunga which is about a battle to save Congo’s mountain gorilla population.
