After many leaks and news about the Apple Hi-Resolution lossless audio support for Apple Music is finally out. In an official blog, Apple has announced Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos with lossless audio will be out for the entire Apple Music catalog. This feature will be available to all the current Apple Music subscribers starting next month with no extra charges. Yes, you have read it right; it is for no extra charges from Apple.
But there is some Apple trick here. This new Hi-Res Lossless audio support is not available on Apple AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, HomePod, and HomePod mini. These devices will not support the new audio format that Apple boasts about. The new Hi-Res Lossless audio will offer studio-quality audio for its entire catalog in Apple Music. To experience the Lossless audio quality, you should use a wired headset. It might even require you to buy an additional dongle or a USB digital to analog audio converter.
This removes Apple’s most used AirPods models for the new audio format as they are completely true wireless earphones. Apple Airpods Max might be the only model that might get support for lossless audio when connected through a wire. But Apple has confirmed that the audio support will not be able to stream through using the lightning cable.
With all these disappointments for the Music lovers owning an Apple product with Airpods supports Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos. The Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos is supported on all the Airpods and Beats headphones having the H1 or W1 chip. This feature is also available on the phone speakers on the latest iPhones, iPad, and Mac. You can experience this feature only if you have subscribed to Apple Music.
