Amazon Announces its first device manufacturing plant in India

Amazon is now partnering with Aatmanrbar Bharat to install its first device manufacturing plant in India. Later this year, the manufacturing unit will be set up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company will be manufacturing the Amazon Firestick TV devices in the plant.

According to the official blog post by Amazon, it will start manufacturing the devices later this year. The company is establishing this plant in partnership with contract manufacturer Cloud Network Technology. Amazon also mentions that it will monitor the scaling capacity and expand to other regions as per the domestic demand.

Senior Vice President and Country Head of Amazon India Amit Agarwal and Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology, had a meeting recently regarding the plant. They announced the matter on Twitter with a Tweet stating that Amazon will soon commence manufacturing electronic products in India.

Amit Agarwal said that Amazon is committed to partnering with the government to advance the vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat.’ This will also increase the moto of the government’s ‘Make in India‘ initiative.

The Minister added, “India is an attractive investment destination and is looking to become a major player in the global supply chain in the electronic and IT products industry. Our government’s decision to launch a Production Linked Incentive(PLI) scheme has got tremendous response globally.”

Not from his words, but we have seen a growth in manufacturing units by giant companies like Apple and Samsung in India. Moreover, the country has announced a 50,000 crore rupees plan to boost electronics manufacturing in India. Even more tech companies like HMD Global are looking to invest big in India to aid the success of the Make in India initiative.
