Disney Plus is planning to launch a new subscription plan for a low cost that supports ads. The Ad-supported subscription tier will be available starting in the US by the end of 2022. The plan will then be expanded to other parts of the world by 2023.
Disney hasn’t yet revealed the pricing or how much cheaper it will be than the existing. The current lowest plan is $ 7.99 per month or $79.99 per year. But these plans are of ad-free service adding another subscription tier much cheaper with ads will bring more customer to the platform. There is no exact confirmation on when these plans will be available. The chairman and the director of Disney Plus are thinking that these plans will help to attract more customers to the platform.
“Since its launch, advertisers have been clamouring for the opportunity to be part of Disney+ and not just because there’s a growing demand for more streaming inventory.” – Rita Ferro, president of advertising, Disney media, and entertainment distribution.
Lowering the price of the subscriptions with ad-supported streaming is now becoming popular among the famous OTT platforms. On this point the Chairman of Disney media and entertainment distribution said “It’s a win-win for everyone”. The word everyone here includes consumers, advertisers, and the storytellers. When the number of consumers increases the advertisers will be able to reach a wider range of audience. And with wider audience the makers can also reach to different parts of the world with their stories.
Disney’s already owned Hulu and ESPN+ does already have plans that support ads. The price of Hulu ad-supported services is $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year. This is almost half the price of the Hulu’s ad-free service offered at $12.99 per month.
