Instagram is adding an extra security feature for accounts

Instagram is adding an extra security feature for accounts that have been previously hacked. This feature will be adding a layer of security for the Instagram account. The feature will walk through some security steps when they log in. These security features include two-factor authentication and confirming other accounts.

Instagram also adds a WhatsApp authentication to the already available authentication methods. The current authentication has a phone number verification and authenticator apps like Google authenticator. These steps will appear when the user logins whose accounts have been hacked. The WhatsApp authentication, for now, will be only available in some regions of the world.

Instagram in a blog mentions that users should be updating their phone numbers and emails regularly. This will help Instagram to contact users when they notice any suspicious activities. The social media platform also mentions that they will never send any DM to accounts. Many reports were saying that Instagram has DM’ed them to change the password.

A point to be noted is that Instagram only sends a message under the ‘Email from Instagram tab’ in settings. Instagram also advises users to report any malicious activity from any account or post. You can do that by clicking the three dots above the post or long pressing on the post. You can visit the support page to have more information regarding this.

Apart from the security features, Instagram is also testing some new features. Some of the features include a reshare sticker and a recently viewed tab. The reshare sticker will appear on selected posts shared in the story. The recently viewed tab let’s users share posts that they have recently viewed.
