Instagram will be using a video selfie to verify the identity of a user

You now need to verify your account with a selfie video by turning your head around

Instagram, a social media site most addictive to many teenagers, is taking another step to increase its safety. The Meta-owned social website used only email or phone number or Facebook account to open an account until now. This not only led to many fake accounts but also many cybercrimes. From now on, Instagram will be using a video selfie to verify the identity of a user.

This feature is introduced to find whether you are a real person. Meta (previously Facebook) promises that it will not use this video for facial recognization or biometrics. During this process, it asks the user to record a video selfie turning head in different directions. To be noted, it also mentions that this video will not be posted and will be deleted after 30 days. This feature at present will be only for the users creating a new account.

This method of verification while creating an account will prevent fake or spam accounts on Instagram. But the question arises for already present accounts will it in the future ask to prove whether we are real humans. And in terms of the fake account, will it use AI to recognize the already present account of the person are still a question mark. This feature was first reported by a Social Media Consultant Manager Matt Navarra via a tweet on Twitter.

There is no mention of when this feature will be available for everyone.
