Microsoft Edge is racing for the second spot in browser race

Microsoft owned browser Edge is looking to compete hard in the browser race. After the remodeling of the Edge browser it has got a positive response from most critics. Though the changes were done with the help of chromium browser it helped Edge to give a good competition. Google Chrome is still unbeatable in the browser race in the recent stats. Apple’s Safari and Microsoft Edge are competing for the second position.

As per the record in Statcounter Google Chrome is unbeatable with a market share of 67.76% as of June 2021. The second spot is no where near to this much market share. The second spot is taken by the Safari with a share of 9.7% followed by Edge with a share of 8.1%.  This stat shows that Safari is still in lead of Edge but when you observe the records from the past 1 year you will get a clear picture.

Back in December 2020 Safari had a share of 10.43% in the browser market. From then the share has been gradually going down. On the other hand in April 2020 Edge has surpassed Firefox to become the second largest desktop browser. From the reports from Statcounter the second spot always had a race between Safari and Firefox since September 2020. In May 2021 Edge has just crossed the Firefox pushing it behind in the race and competing with Safari. Since then adding some useful features like tab groups and much more. Microsoft is looking to add more and more robust features to offer more competition.

These features and also Windows recommending the use of Edge becoming more aggressive might be a threat to Safari. On the other had Safari is also not ready to loose the battle in a easy way. In the new iOS 15 it has got a redesign with voice search, Tab groups and more features. This race will be a little interesting with Windows 11 nearing its official release.
