The introduction of the NASA+ on-demand streaming service has been announced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In an official press release, the American Space Agency revealed that it is launching a new streaming platform named NASA+, accompanied by a complete upgrade and overhaul of its flagship websites and mobile apps for iOS and Android. The focal point of this announcement is the introduction of the new on-demand service.
The beta version of the website is currently being developed, and once fully launched, it will offer an ad-free, cost-free, and family-friendly experience to users. NASA+ will function as a standalone service while utilizing the same NASA mainframe and database. This integration allows users to access a wide array of content, ranging from information about agency missions and research, climate data, podcasts, live coverages, and virtual tours, to updates on the Artemis mission and much more. Furthermore, the streaming platform will offer access to both launched and upcoming Emmy Award-winning live coverage and several video series.
A major enhancement in user experience will come from a common search engine that will connect the three websites together, providing a “connected, integrated, and topic-driven experience” for visitors. Additionally, the website will curate content from selected agency websites, further streamlining information delivery.
Marc Etkind, Associate Administrator at the Office of Communications at NASA Headquarters, commented on the launch, stating, “Space is being made available on demand and brought to your fingertips with NASA’s new streaming platform. The transformation of our digital presence will enable us to better narrate the stories of NASA’s exploration of the unknown in air and space, inspiring through discoveries, and innovating for the betterment of humanity.”
The forthcoming NASA+ streaming service is set to be available later this year on web platforms, Android and iOS devices via the existing NASA app, as well as on Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV. With the unveiling of NASA+, the space agency seeks to foster a closer connection with the public, allowing people worldwide to delve into the wonders of space, science, and human ingenuity in a passive and engaging manner. Excitement grows as space enthusiasts eagerly await the official launch of NASA+ and the wealth of captivating content it promises to offer.
