Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 888 plus with 3GHz CPU

Phones with the new processor will be coming in Q3 of this year

Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 888 plus with 3GHz CPU

Qualcomm launched its new flagship processor as a successor to its Snapdragon 888. The new SoC is called the Snapdragon 888 plus and is announced in the MWC 2021. This new processor will be a slight upgrade to the already present Snapdragon 888. Smartphones with the new SoC will be coming in this Q3 year. But, again, the new Snapdragon 888 Plus will be a slight upgrade to the existing Snapdragon 888 like Qualcomm does every year.

The changes on the new SoC have been minor when compared to the previous year. The CPU in the new Snapdragon 888 Plus is the Kryo 680 Prime that is clocked to 3.0GHz. It also has the new 6th Gen Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine that can perform 32 TOPS(Tera Operations Per Second) AI processes along with a new CPU. This means the AI performance in the new Snapdragon 888 Plus will be 20% more than the predecessor. However, the rest of the cores except the Kyro 60 remains the same as present on the regular Snapdragon 888. In addition, Qualcomm hasn’t upgraded the GPU in the new Snapdragon chipset; it is still the Adreno 660 GPU.

This new upgrade of the chipset has mainly been concentrated on AI and CPU speed. Apart from these changes, others remain the same from their predecessor. The 5G modem is still the Snapdragon X60 and the ISP (Image Signalling Processor). The maximum display support is 4K at 60Hz and QHD+ at 144Hz refresh rate.

Popular brands like Honor, Asus, Motorola, and Xiaomi are currently working with the new chipset. We can expect phones with the Snapdragon 888 Plus in the third quarter of this year.
