Russia reportedly Eases Piracy of Games, Movies, and more

A response to the sanctions by the Western Country

Russia allows piracy of games

With the on going Russia invasion of Ukraine, the Western countries have imposed sanctions on Russia. To counter this action Russia is planning to ease the piracy of Games and Movies. It is planning to ease the copyrights law in the country  so that piracy can become easy.

The Russian Ministry of Economic Development has recently proposed to ease the piracy law as many countries have imposed sanction on Russia. This would impact mainly Games, movies, TV series, and many more. These decisions are made in order to minimize the effect of the sanctions by the western countries.

“The possibility of lifting restrictions on the use of intellectual property contained in certain goods, the supply of which to Russia is limited, is being considered. This will smooth out the impact on the market of breaks in supply chains, as well as the shortage of goods and services that arose due to new sanctions by Western countries.” – Ministry of Economic Development.

Supporting these actions one of the Minister Dmitry Ionin suggests to unblock RuTracker. Since the Hollywood studios have stopped to release their movies in Russia, unblocking the Torrent sites will help Russians pirate Hollywood movies.

According to a news report by City A.M. says that a local media in Russia announced that Russian companies will not have any obligations to pay patents. As many companies have imposed sanctions there is no need to pay for the intellectual property rights. An firm can now use innovations from unfriendly nations without having to pay for the intellectual property rights.
