Elon Musk’s Tesla made its establishment in 2003. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest electric car sellers in several countries. However, the company has still not made its way to India. The primary reason is, the cars in India mostly depend on petroleum as fuel. India doesn’t have a proper infrastructure for electric vehicles yet. However, the Tesla India launch has confirmed finally.

Earlier this year, Elon Musk tweeted that Tesla is coming to India ‘next year for sure’. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways and the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises; according to The Indian Express report, Nitin confirmed that Tesla would be coming to India and the operations and sales starting early next year.

The union transport minister said Indian companies like Tata and Ola Cabs are already working on electric vehicles. They will be as technically advanced as Tesla and available at a more affordable price.

Tesla will import its electric vehicles; based on the response, it may choose India as one of its assembly hubs.

“India is going to become a no.1 manufacturing hub for auto in five years”

– Nitin Gadkari

Reports suggest that the first model to come to India will be the most affordable ‘Tesla Model 3’. However, the sales will happen only in 2nd half of the year, as per the Economic Times report. Tesla will import completely built units, and the prices are likely to start from 55Lakhs onwards.

Tesla will most probably handle sales directly as it does in other countries. There is currently no official information on when Telsa will debut in India. As Elon Musk and Indian transport minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed the Tesla India debut, we can stay assured that the launch window is in sight.
