Uber in terms of safety precautions has taken another step. They have introduced verification by a selfie of the customer after their ride in Uber India. Passengers after completing the ride if they don’t take a selfie with a mask they can’t book the next ride. This feature is already present in countries like Canada and the USA since September and now is being expanded to India.
The company also had a similar feature for the driver since May this year. Uber passengers will be asked to verify based on the feedback from the previous driver. If the driver reports that the customer didn’t wear the mask. The customer should upload a selfie of them wearing the mask to book for the next ride via the Uber App.
Since the introduction of the driver verification selfies, it has more than 17.44 million verifications done in India alone. Uber also has more safety measures like mandatory driver education about COVID-19 safety protocols. Go Online Checklist, a mandatory mask for riders, pre-trip mask verification for drivers are some more safety measures. Uber also lets the driver or rider cancel the trip if anyone is not wearing a mask and uber will not levy any penalty.
