WhatsApp finally rolls out Voice and video calling support on desktop and web

WhatsApp has finally brought the voice and video calling feature on desktop and web. The feature is available in both the Mac and Windows version of the application. In an announcement in their blog, WhatsApp has mentioned this and will be rolling out soon to all the devices.

During the last year’s pandemic, the company saw a big spike in voice and video calls using the app. Everyone struck at home all alone to themselves used this feature to feel connected to their beloved ones. WhatsApp to keep the demand in 2020 has brought support to 8 members during a video call. Now extending the ease of usage, it has brought the feature to its desktop application and web.

WhatsApp has been planning to bring voice and video calling features to the desktop for a long time. The company had already tested the feature with a small group of members in December 2020. WhatsApp has seen a record for most calls in a single day on the new year day with 1.4 billion calls.

At the start of this new year, the company has brought a change in their privacy policy and has got a negative mark for that. After that incident, the company has seen many users leaving WhatsApp and looking for alternatives. Later the company has to push the update to May of this year.

Now, this new feature on the desktop and web only supports one-to-one calling for now. This means we can only call one person using the desktop app. This might be a little downside but still an upside for many users who will be using their laptops or macs more than their phones.
