WhatsApp has been trying to add many features to increase its useability and privacy. Recently WhatsApp introduced joining a call or video call after missing to attend it at the beginning. After that, WhatsApp has also added the option to select the image or video quality to send. All these features are to increase the security and usability of the app. Now WhatsApp is adding a new privacy feature to local backup. You can now have end-to-end encryption for local and cloud backup also.
Previously you could only have end-to-end encryption for chats. If the conversation is taken back up to cloud or local, there would be no end-to-end encryption. Now WhatsApp seems to have an update to protect the privacy of that loophole. WhatsApp has been providing end-to-end encryption to WhatsApp since 2014. To have a backup now, users need to have a password or an encryption key. Without the key or password, you won’t restore the data from the cloud or local.

WABetaInfo shared this new feature via Twitter with some screenshots. There is one thing to note: if a user forgets their key or password, you cannot recover the data. WhatsApp has not provided any recovery options to get the forgotten password. It is worth noting that this encrypted data will be private and not shared with WhatsApp or Facebook.
There is no particular date from when you will be able to get the update. WABetaInfo mentions that this feature will be coming soon in the future.
