On October 1st at the IMC event, 5G has been launched officially in India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. But has it been really launched since many flagship users living in the metro cities are unable to use the 5G network services? The reason for this answer is simple Samsung and Apple that has the major share of the flagship smartphones haven’t enabled 5G in their phones.
At present only Airtel has officially launched 5G in Delhi, Mumbai, Varanasi, Bangalore, Gurugram, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Chennai cities only. On the other hand, its rival Reliance Jio is available in only Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Varanasi invite-only users. Jio said it will expand its 5G coverage and network throughout India by the end of December 2022. The third network provider Vodafone-Idea or vi is yet to provide a timeline for the 5G availability to their customers. This is about the network providers and their plan to spread 5G around the country.
In order to experience 5G not only a network but also need a device that can use the signal. We have phone manufacturers that have been selling their phones using the 5G name on their models for the past year. Seems that all these devices are not able to connect to the 5G towers even though living next to one of the 5G towers. The reason is that Apple, Samsung, and Motorola are yet to release a software update that will enable 5G services in their phones.
Apple and Samsung have already announced that they will provide an update to their phones by December and November respectively. At present both companies are testing and validating the 5G network in India. As soon as the testing and validating are done it will push an update to its phones to enable 5G. Whereas brands like Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, Vivo, Oneplus, and IQOO are able to connect to and use the 5G network in available cities in India.
