YouTube has taken a very significant move by removing the count below the dislike button. This is going to change the viewer’s behavior on the platform. From now on users can dislike a video if they don’t like it but you won’t be able to find the number of dislikes the video has got.
The number of dislikes a video has got will only be visible to the creator of the video. YouTube mentioned that this move has been taken in order to prevent the targeted harassment by disliking the video. This situation has happened many times in the past but YouTube didn’t respond to it. But now it has taken some serious action towards these kinds of behaviors.
YouTube didn’t just think of releasing this feature it has performed an experiment with some people. In this experiment, YouTube noticed a reduction in the dislike button attack from the individuals in the experiment. Not only it is going to prevent the dislike attack but also it will help some of the small creators in YouTube.
Most people have been using the dislike count to find about the video even before watching it. Even though many would not agree with this move YouTube is not stepping back as mentioned in the blog post. As every coin has two sides this move also has two sides where it will help the content creators but not the viewers. It will be difficult for the viewers to find a good video that is worth their time especially educational videos.
Some have been saying that this move has been done in order to remove YouTube’s own video of rewind 2018 from the most disliked video in the history of YouTube. After that YouTube is also not planning to make any rewind videos.
