Apple has announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 will take place from June 5 to June 9 as a virtual online event. As in previous years, Apple is expected to announce new versions of its software platforms such as iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and WatchOS. Industry insiders are also speculating that Apple may launch new hardware products at the event. The company has been teasing a pro-grade Mac Pro desktop computer for over a year, and WWDC 2023 would be the perfect opportunity to unveil the much-awaited device.

In addition to the Mac Pro, there have been rumors of a 15-inch MacBook Air and Apple’s long-anticipated mixed-reality headset, which Bloomberg reports may be revealed at the conference. Apple has reportedly been working on the headset for over seven years. While the market for headsets is a niche, industry watchers are putting pressure on Apple to show its next big product, as the market for smartphones continues to shrink.

However, questions remain about the mixed-reality headset’s cost and its features. Some reports indicate that Apple could charge as much as $3000 for the device, which would be significantly more expensive than Meta’s Quest Pro, a mixed-reality headset that retails for $1500. The extended reality (XR) market is still emerging, and there is no real use case that offers a compelling reason to buy an expensive headset.

Despite this, Apple’s VP of Worldwide Developer Relations, Susan Prescott, has promised that this year’s WWDC will be the company’s “biggest and most exciting yet.” The conference will have an offline component, with a select few being invited to attend in-person at Apple Park in Cupertino, California.

In conclusion, Apple WWDC 2023 promises to be an exciting event for developers and tech enthusiasts alike. While the company is expected to announce new versions of its software platforms, there is also anticipation for the launch of new hardware products, such as the Mac Pro and mixed-reality headset. However, it remains to be seen whether these devices will be worth their expected high price points and if they will drive the XR market forward.
