Elon Musk buys Twitter this saga that we all thought would never not be ending so soon have got an end to the story. Twitter has finally accepted the offer from Elon Musk to hand over the company to him. For those who have been off track of what has been happened you can go through the previous article that covers from the beginning. Elon Musk has been trying to buy Twitter so that we can have the right of Free Speech.
Musk is ready to make Twitter the digital town square. After his offering of $44 billion the members of the board of Twitter have introduced “poison pill” to counter his offer to taking over Twitter. But it seems even after that they have decided to accept the offer from Elon Musk. Musk’s price of $54.20 per share in cash will be given to each of the share that has been closed upon the transaction. That is 33% higher price than the last trading day that was on April 1st, the day when Elon Musk has disclosed the highest stake holder of Twitter.
After the news about Elon Musk taking over Twitter as a sole owner the CEO of Twitter announced that there will be no layoffs planned. But even after that many people that are part of Twitter are in a confusion as the official statement from Musk is still pending. As the sole owner of Twitter Musk wants to bring free speech to Twitter as that was his primary goal.
Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated. I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans. – Elon Musk after buying Twitter
There has also been some negative spread about the decision of free speech that Musk has been talking about. Musk did give his explanation about the concept of free speech in his latest Tweet. He mentions that “The extreme antibody reaction from those who fear free speech says it all“.
By “free speech”, I simply mean that which matches the law.
I am against censorship that goes far beyond the law.
If people want less free speech, they will ask government to pass laws to that effect.
Therefore, going beyond the law is contrary to the will of the people.
