Google seems to be working on its own smartwatch to rival Apple. Google has recently launched its first-ever own house chip-powered smartphone Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Now it seems using Google is ready to take on the smartwatches segment too. Google is the owner of the wearOS that is being used in major flagship smartphones since 2014. But Google didn’t have its own smartwatch to use its own OS.

According to a report in Business Insider Google is working on a smartwatch to launch in 2022. This watch is designed by its own Pixel hardware team. Google already has Fitbit that manufactures a dozen of smartwatches and smart bands every year. But Google is not using the resources of Fitbit and trying to build something different from what Fitbit is building.

The internal code of the smartwatch that Google is making is “Rohan”. Google is looking to build a watch that will be a direct competitor to the present Apple Watch. It will contain most of the sensors like heart rate, SpO2, ECG, and all. The Pixel Watch (this is not the final name) will not be fitness-based like its brother company Fitbit. The watch will moreover be an overall watch with all the features needed in a smartwatch.

Google is also planning to release a new version of the WearOS 3 probably next year. And the launch of this OS will be done Pixel Watch only. The Pixel Watch might be released in the next year with a price tag around the present Fitbit watches.

Will Google make its way to the smartwatches and give a competition to Apple? The answer to this question is not so far as we are only a few days to the next year.
