We heard a lot of rumors about Google’s plan for Pixel Fold, and now it is more likely to come true. Not only that, reports and leaks claim that we can actually see a Google Pixel Fold later this year.
Jon Prosser, an analyst and a leaker, tweeted that “the Google Pixel Fold is a real thing” and will appear “later this year or in early next year.”
Several other similar reports suggest the same, including a tweet by analyst Ross Young last year indicating Google would have a foldable model in the second half of 2021. 9to5Google also supported the same statements with its own research in 2020. According to the report by 9to5Google, they reviewed an internal Android document; And that document suggests Google is developing Android builds for Pixel 5a, a foldable Pixel, and other first-party devices.
When Samsung was debuting its own foldable phone back in 2019, the CNET interviewed Mario Queiroz, Lead Pixel Developer. “We’re definitely prototyping the technology. We’ve been doing it for a long time,” Queiroz said in the interview. But, he added, “I don’t think there’s a clear use case yet.”
“I think it needs to be more innovative than that,” he said, referring to the current screen sizes the foldable phones offer. “The use case is going to need to be something where you go, ‘Hey, I definitely need to have this.’ Right now, you don’t need to have a foldable. It’s kind of a ‘nice-to-have.'”
However, they are finally getting ready to release their first foldable phone. I believe they concluded something to offer it with a better use case as well as better innovation. Let’s wait till it comes to light.
