Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, took Twitter to talk about the company’s upcoming plans for the second half of 2021. He made a video talking about some of the changes coming to Instagram over the next few months. Mosseri also mentioned what the company would be focusing on going forward.
Adam stresses that video is driving an immense amount of growth for all major social platforms out there. He outlined that Instagram is working on delivering better experiences with full-screen mobile-first videos.
“We’re no longer a photo-sharing app or a square photo-sharing app”
– Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram.
Adam said they are working on building new experiences primarily in four areas right now,
- Creators
- Video
- Shopping
- Messaging
Although the company is working on the above four areas, Video seems more prioritized, and Instagram has a major focus. The company now sees itself as an entertainment service, just like YouTube and Tiktok. As the competition around it evolved significantly, the company has constantly made changes following the trend.
Mosseri directly named YouTube and Tiktok regarding how popular they are and how Instagram needs to adapt to compete against them.
“Now, the pandemic shifted or accelerated the shift of commerce from offline to online by a number of years, and we’re trying to lean into the trend,” said Adam while talking about shopping.
