Intel announces 11th Gen Tiger Lake CPUs

Intel 11th Gen Processors

Intel on September 2nd in a virtual event called “Something Big” has Officially announced its 11th Gen Tiger Lake CPUs. With the 11th Gen, intel is mainly focusing on the thin & light laptops. The new Gen chipset design was based on the “Willow Cove” chips which are part of the Tiger Lake system-on-chip(SoC). The Tiger Lake is the successor of Intel’s Lake Field SoC, and Willow cove is the successor of Sunny cove CPUs.

This new 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors will feature new integrated Xe graphics. These processors will also feature Thunderbolt 4, WiFi 6, PCIe Gen 4, and a big leap in battery life and performance compared to the old generation processors.

The 11th Gen Tiger Lake CPU offers a base speed of 3.0 GHz, a maximum single-core Turbo Boost up to 4.8 GHz. The maximum all-core Turbo boost of up to 4.3 GHz. The new processors also feature the new powerful version of Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics. This new integrated graphics has 96 CUs and a maximum graphics speed of 1.35 GHz.

Also, the new processors will have support 8K HDR displays, along with the option to use up to four 4K HDR displays at once. There is also AI improvement with built-in AI engines like background blur in video calls etc.

The 11th Gen Tiger Lake processors are still built on 10nm, similar to the 10th Gen Ice Lake models. Intel says that the Willow cove architecture has a new SuperFin design which offers more speed at less power consumption.

Intel bets Xe graphics with the new processor will trump core count:

Intel’s rival chipmaker AMD is currently top when it comes to raw core count in mobile processors. AMD Ryzen 4000 series processors can have up to 8 cores operating at 4.10 GHz. Intel bets that the new Tiger Lake processors with integrated Xe graphics with 4 cores can provide better performance in real-world tasks such as video/photo editing and PC gaming.

During the event, intel showed multiple comparisons of its 11th gen chip against AMD 4800U and an Nvidia MX350 GPU with 10th Gen Intel Core Processor. The comparison showed intel besting AMD 4800U when editing photos and exporting videos in Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premium Pro. Intel also showed a demo of the Gears Tactics game where the new 11th gen chipset delivered a higher frame rate than the rival AMD 4800U and even the Nvidia MX350 with 10th Gen Intel processor.

Intel Eve Laptops are coming:

Along with the new chips, Intel also announced its Project Athena certification standard iteration called “Intel Evo”. Only laptops that meet the Key experience indicators(KEIs) will be able to carry the Evo badge. The KEIs include:
