Intel is mainly known for designing and manufacturing CPUs for laptops and desktops. Today Intel has announced its first discrete GPU under the brand Intel Arc. This will be the first-ever discrete GPU from Intel that can be used for high-end gaming performance. Intel will be releasing the Arc line GPUs from next year.
The code name of the first Arc GPU internally is known as “Alchemist”. Intel Arc will be covering both the hardware and software, powering high-end GPU with multiple hardware generations. There has been no official announcement of specifics of the Alchemist, but Intel has released a video teaser. This teaser shows the gameplay of some popular titles on the prototype. The teaser also mentions that the GPU will be silicon powered and has PUBG, Psychonauts 2, Metro Exodus, and more gameplays.
Intel Arc will offer mesh shading, variable-rate shading, video upscaling, and real-time ray tracing. Apart from these, Intel also mentions AI-accelerated supersampling in the teaser video. This will be rivaling up against Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technology and AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR). Though the names are different, the main work is to upscale the games from lower resolution to provide smoother frame rates without consuming more power from the hardware.
“We have teams doing incredible work to ensure we deliver first-class and frictionless experiences when these products are available early next year.” – Roger Chandler(Head of Intel’s client GPU business).
Intel has just made an announcement and a teaser of their upcoming Arc GPU. In addition to these, Intel also has revealed its future generation code names “Battlemage,” “Celestial,” and “Druid”.
