LG is well-known for its display technology. Their televisions are one of the best in the market. LG entered the smartphone market before and the company had pretty average experiences and even bad ones at some time period. It kind of gave a gap and made a comeback. This time, they started introducing the concept phones. They are very unique and are with the best and innovative displays (Should I call it screens?). LG is literally playing with their smartphone displays; like there’re in some kind of quest in finding the ways of mounting a display to the phone. Here’s yet another patent registered by LG for their Rollable and Retractable display.
LG rollable display design
The patent filed in August 2019, by LG Electronics at USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office); With the name “Roll-Slide Mobile Terminal”. On September 24, 2020, the documentation was published and also filed in WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) database for world-wide protection.
The display roll-out and the roll-in process are based on two springs attached. The frame of the chassis can gently be stretched out, the screen comes out from the frame’s inner edge and locks at the end. Similarly, when the screen is rolling in, it enters through the frame in a most compact way. The springs give better smoothness for slide-in and slide-out actions. LG’s display can automatically do orientations accordingly.
According to LetsGoDigital, it is described that there is no camera and speaker on the front and they are remarkably built inside.
Earlier this month, Neowin reported that LG’s new rollable display smartphones are being tested and are under development with the code name ‘B Project’. And the phone’s display can able to be pulled out at least one side and they may release in March 2021.
