Meta Haptic Gloves

Meta (Ex-Facebook) is working on some innovative technologies in Virtual and Augmented reality (VR/AR). The direction in which Meta was looking for in the future. Meta believes that the future is Metaverse, and that’s how they are looking to develop their products. Meta does have products for Augmented and Virtual Reality (VR/AR), but the problem in this Metaverse is the sense of touch or feel. Now Meta has shared a currently working project Haptic Gloves that lets you sense the objects in the Virtual World.

These Haptic Gloves will be connected to the Headset like Oculus. Until now, the team was able to test some range of sensations like texture, pressure, and vibration. The development is still in the early stages, and if the product is ever to come to the market, it will provide you with the sensations so accurate that you can connect it to the headset and play poker or pool table.

The team that is working on the haptic gloves has been researching for the past seven years. Meta mentions that team had to research various factors to push the science to new boundaries. According to Meta, the team studied Perceptual Science, Soft robotics, Microfluidics, Hand tracking, and Haptic rendering to develop the Haptic Gloves.

Meta didn’t mention when these Haptic Gloves will be available in the market. It just wants to make sure it gets the technology right without hurrying, as innovation requires time. Until then, the Haptic Gloves Meta is developing will belong only to its lab. Not to forget, Meta also mentions that these Gloves can also be paired with the AR glasses that it is developing.
