Qualcomm demonstrates World’s first Smartphone with an integrated SIM

This will give more space for Smartphone manufacturer's

qualcom integrated SIM or iSIM

World’s biggest smartphone chip manufacturer Qualcomm has made something cool. Until now we have been using a physical SIM in our smartphones. After iPhone X and Pixel 2 we got witness the eSIM that doesn’t have a physical sim and still could enjoy the benefits of having one. Now we are moving a step ahead where Qualcomm introduces a new technology that has a SIM integrated into its SoC. Qualcomm is calling this the iSIM that means Integrated SIM.

They have demonstrated this partnering with Samsung, Vodafone, and Thales. This means now the chipset that we have in our smartphone will also have the functionalities of the SIM. The iSIM will be sharing room with the CPU, GPU, and the modem. This new tech is going to change the way devices will be connecting to each other.

We are in the age where everything is either connected to each other or to the internet. And not only that all the electronic gadgets have been becoming intelligent over time having a SoC within them. And now with the introduction of the iSIM or integrated SIM you can have any device with a SoC to connect with each other without having a Bluetooth range. Qualcomm demonstrated this new piece of technology using the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 along with Thales iSIM OS and also Vodafone’s advanced networking.

This will be a great new to the smartphone manufacturer’s like Apple that is trying to achieve SIM less phone. Apple was looking to ditch the SIM slot in future to only support eSIM but that does have some limitations. But now if Qualcomm has succeeded with that no doubt Apple will be looking to adapt that technology. Moreover it will also provide more space to integrate more technology into the smartphone.
