Samsung is a massively popular and gigantic company that is leading today’s technology in its own way. Their display technology plays a significant role in the company’s profitability. Hell yeah, their displays are the best in the world. Samsung converted the concept of folding display technology to mass productive reality. Meanwhile, LG and Oppo recently revealed and demonstrated their plans for bringing rollable displays with their smartphones. Lately, another major company has entered the market with its own concept. Reportedly, Samsung Display will develop rollable and sliding screens in 2021.
Samsung has also filed patents related to phones with sliding displays. Specifically, one patent filed in 2019 shows a screen that slides down and to the back of the device, revealing a selfie camera and other sensors at the top. Another patent filed last year shows a phone that’s being able to slide up or down and feature a rear screen.
It’s not guaranteed that Samsung will make displays with this tech for itself. Usually, it also develops display parts for other smartphone manufacturers too. Sometimes, it’ll test its new technology in the market via the other manufacturers. Like giving them the tech and let them release it into the market; if that goes well, Sammy brings a better one of that. It is what we’ve seen several times. However, Samsung may think of getting the rollable display tech directly with their phones if they believe they did it well enough for the 1st Gen. So we wouldn’t be surprised if it does.
