Foldable phones from Samsung have embarked on new technology for the smartphone industry. After that, many companies have started their foldable phone concepts. Apart from the foldable phones, we have got my companies trying for the rollable phones. Last year we saw leaks that companies like LG and Oppo are working on their version of rollable phones. Before announcing their goodbye to the smartphone industry, LG announced a rollable concept phone in CES 2021. The latest patent from Samsung also notes a rollable screen in a smartphone.
This defines the future that we will have many phones with screens that will bend or roll. Samsung is not new to the rollable screen technology; they have also announced a rollable OLED TV and demonstrated it. There have been many news articles regarding the latest patent. Among all, the reports from Sammobile and LetsGoDigital have got some pretty good renders about the concept phone. The renders show the screen extending to one side, making it a tab when fully rolled out.
The concept looks almost similar to the Oppo X 2021 but with a slight difference in the design. The screen on the Samsung rollable smartphone will have support from the frame, unlike the Oppo X. This frame does look good but seems to be a little delicate. You can also observe a triple camera setup on the back and watch no camera holes in the front. This hints at an under-display camera to be present in the smartphone.
At present, all the rollable smartphones are only conceptual. No phone has come to the consumer. Companies tend to register for a patent years before the phone comes out to the consumer market. This will protect the company from future litigations from their rivals. If things go well, we might also see a new Samsung Galaxy Z Rollable smartphone series soon.
