In a time where we have 120W super-fast charging of course through a wire. Also, where companies are trying to bring a wireless charger at more affordable prices. Xiaomi has introduced a new technology of “Air Charging” which can charge phones without wire and even without a pad. The company claims to able to charge devices within a radius of several meters. It can charge not only a single device but multiple devices at once.

The charging speed might be very low when compared to the present wireless/wired. The charging speed is 5W which is like more than a decade-old speed of charging. Xiaomi claims that physical obstacles won’t affect the charging efficiency.

To use the “Air Charging feature” Xiaomi has made an isolated charging pile has five phase interference antennas built-in. It can accurately find the location of the smartphone using these five antennas. A phased array will have 144 antennas transmits millimetre-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming.

The smartphone will be having a miniaturized antenna array with built-in “beacon antenna” and “receiving antenna array”. Beacon antenna broadcasts position information with low power consumption. The receiving antenna array will have 14 antennas that convert millimetre waves from the pile into electric energy.

Unsure about this concept is going real or not as there were attempts. This is not the first time a company has tried this way of innovation. The one thing that makes it stand-out from them is that it comes from one of the world’s biggest smartphone companies. Xiaomi also claims that this can charge smartphones and smartwatches, TV’s, smart speakers, and other IoT devices.
